10 Weekend Getaways from Delhi NCR

Dusshera & Diwali breaks are around the corner so I thought of curating a list of 10 destinations that are around Delhi NCR & can surely bring the much needed change.

Most importantly, though these trips are short they work as tonic leaving you refreshed so that you may get back to your work with extra zeal.

So without further ado, let the countdown begin:

Agra

Distance from Delhi: 233 km
A name that comes up almost synonymous with that of Delhi is Agra. A royal city that needs no words of introduction, the dazzling city of Agra has been a great attraction both for national as well as international tourists from all around the World. However if you have been thinking that the Taj Mahal is the only place of attraction in Agra, you may be proved wrong. From its tantalizing royal cuisine, to the Agra fort and the Sur Sarovar bird Sanctuary, Agra abounds with interesting places and is definitely worth your weekend

How to reach: You can easily reach Agra both by trains, cars and bus as it is well connected with Delhi.

Average costs: The average cost for two adults may be around 6,000- 10,000 depending upon your accommodation and your means of transport.

Neemrana

Distance from Delhi: 130 km
Located in the historically and culturally distinguished state of India, Neemrana is a town in Rajasthan boasting of the beauty of bygone days. Many people also call it as Mini japan of India and is almost equidistant from Delhi and Jaipur. There are several beautiful monuments around the town that are worth your attention. You can also make it a base to visit nearby places such as Mathura.

Average costs: Average cost for a weekend with two people comes to around 6000-8000.

Kurukshetra

Distance from Delhi: 155 km
Known since the time of Mahabharata and mentioned in Bhagavad Gita, Kurukshetra is also known as Dharmakshetra. It is located in the state of Haryana and it is famous for its temples, some of which are said to date back up to several thousand years. It is also known as the land of the Bhagavad Gita as legends hold it that it was over here that Lord Sri Krishna narrated the Bhagavad Gita, during the Kurukshetra War.

Do visit the Birla Mandir, Bhisma Kund, Sheik Chilli’s tomb among others.

Mathura Vrindavan

Distance from Delhi: 186 km
Known to be the birth place of Lord Sri Krishna, Mathura can be a good option for a short weekend getaway from Delhi. Even for those who are not interested in the mythological history of the place, the ancient structures such as the temples are so well maintained that you cannot help getting mesmerized by them. If you are a foodie, Mathura is sure to delight you as it offers some of the best delicacies of entire Uttar Pradesh. It is also especially popular for its dairy products

Average costs: The average cost including that of travel comes to around 5000-7000 per person.

Deeg

Distance from Delhi: 221 km
Deeg, located in the dazzling town of Rajasthan is another feather on its crown. The royal palace of Deeg is of course the center of attraction, tantalizing people wit its architectural beauty as well as its vibrant colors. You can actually feel the opulence of its past days from the vibe of the palace.

Average costs: The average cost involved is 7,000-9,000 for two people excluding the food.

Bharatpur Bird sanctuary

Distance from Delhi: 222 km
Renamed as the Keoladeo Ghana National park, but more popularly known as the Bharatpur Bird sanctuary, this is the ideal place for all those who have an interest in nature. It is a heaven for bird watching as thousands of migratory birds visit it each year. It has also been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Average costs: For two people, the average cost comes to around 5,500-8000 including the tickets for entry.

Mandawa

Distance from Delhi – 232 km
A fort town, Mandawa is a major attraction among tourists both from Delhi as well as Rajasthan It boasts of the beautiful Shekhawati Hawelli, the home to the erstwhile Maharajas of the place. Apart from this, there are numerous other old mansion as well.

Average costs: The average cost for two is around 7000-9000.

Rishikesh-Haridwar

Distance from Delhi: 240 km
Well connected by cars, buses as well as trains, Haridwar and Rishikesh are located by the sides of turbulent Ganga River, rolling down from the hills. Apart from its religious importance and its colorful ghats, it also popular for adventure sports such as river rafting and paragliding.

Average costs: The average cost for two is within 10,000 rupees. However, hotel rates keep fluctuating and it is better to book in advance to avail discounts.

Chandigarh

Distance from Delhi- 234 km
If you want to witness the most well planned town of India, Chandigarh is the place for you. Planned by a French Architect, the whole town is a marvel in itself. The popular tourist spots include Sukhna Lake and the Rock garden which was designed by the French architect himself.

Dehradun

Distance from Delhi: 245 km
Located in the Doon valley, Dehradun is for all those who enjoy scenic beauty and nature. An old British town, the town still speaks of its past days through its mall roads, the various old bakeries and book stores.
